Whether you’re renting one of our luxury mystudiomontreal.com apartments for a short getaway or an extended stay, it’s possible you took in most of the major sights in the first few days and are wondering how to really scratch the surface of this Canadian gem. Here are some of our favourite off-the-beaten-track activities for those who really want to get the most out of their trip:

The Belgo Building: If you’re into art but have already ticked the major galleries off your list, then take a few hours to explore the many floors of the Belgo building (372 Sainte-Catherine Ouest). It’s a mecca for Montreal’s artists, art dealers, designers, dancers, and architects, with permanent exhibition spaces and pop-up shows.

Circus City: In Northern Montreal you’ll find the headquarters of Cirque du Soleil, the National Circus School and La Tohu, the only permanent circus theatre in North America. The Circus school and La Tohu both organize many events and classes, and the latter has its own circus memorabilia collection You could also stay for a show at night, if you’re here in June you can see the graduates of the circus school perform.

The ‘other’ Gardens: Although the Montreal Botanical Gardens are very well known – especially the rose garden – there are also Japanese, Chinese and Native American gardens on the same site, and they’re definitely worth a visit. Also see if you can find the tree house, garden of the azaleas and the Garden’s collection of Bonsai and Penjings, which is the largest in the Western Hemisphere
