Need some reasons to visit Montreal this summer? Here are three…

June 3, 2014

For those of us who live here, it seems pretty obvious why you should choose Montreal for your next vacation, especially now that the sun is out! But ok, we’ll spell it out for you – pay attention…!

Just for Laughs: …and Francofolies, and Nuits d’Afrique, and Picnik electronique, and Jazz Fest, and Blues Fest, and a TON of other festivals that Montreal packs into the summer months. And for those on a budget, fear not! Lots of things are completely free!! Take a stroll down to Place des Spectacles (just a few minutes from your apartment, by the way), and you’ll come across the most incredible music, comedy and dance right on the street until late at night. Bring a folding chair and some snacks and you’re set for an awesome summer!

Poutine:…and beaver tails, and St Ambroise beer, and sticky-sweet pulled pork sandwiches served hot from gourmet food trucks that gather downtown all summer long! You cannot come to Montreal and not taste all the local specialties, including smoked meat sandwiches and our own take on the humble bagel. Sit down one evening to Lobster Spaghetti at world-renowned Joe Beef, and line up the next day at the Atwater Market for papaya salad from the Satay Brothers. You can’t go wrong in this great gourmet city.

The weather: While many think the frozen north is an inhospitable place year-round, locals and visitors know that from about the end of May, Montreal turns into a whole other world of terraces, outdoor drinking, public pools, man-made beaches, and rooftop bars. Love nature? Climb up Mont Royal in the morning (before the temperature soars) for an incredible view of the city, then kayak down the St. Lawrence River before checking out the flora and fauna of the Botanical Gardens. Prefer to soak up the sun urban-style? Take a seat in the courtyard of a neighborhood bar or get yourself invited to a rooftop pool party. Whatever you do – don’t stay indoors during a Montreal summer!
