Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement

August 25, 2011

On August 15th, 2011 the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (CCoFTA) came into effect. This agreement offers more relaxed immigration procedures for Colombian and Canadians citizens. Thus, this agreement is extremely beneficial for Colombian and Canadian workers alike, specifically for those in the mining, oil and gas sectors.

Exporters benefit from and elimination or reduction of tariffs on all exports, therefore making the trading environment between these two countries much more predictable and transparent.

Colombia is a rapidly emerging market, with a population of 48 million. Colombia’s economy has a high growth potential, therefore making it a strategic destination for Canadian direct investment.
