As of July 1st 2011, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced an annual cap for skilled workers and investors in Canada.

The Federal Skilled Worker program is designed for new immigrants who are seeking permanent residence and do not already have an employment offer in Canada. CIC has decided to cap this program at 10,000 candidates annually and 500 per country and occupation classification. Once CIC accepts 10,000 candidates they will stop accepting applicants until the following year. The Canadian government has also decided to temporarily stop accepting applications under the Federal Entrepreneur Class. They have also announced changes within the Immigrant Investor Program; they have decided to cap the applications at 700 per year and use a centralized filing system in Nova Scotia.
